Women Helping Women
When the Covid-19 pandemic spread across Asia, many countries closed their borders with strict stay-at-home orders as the healthcare infrastructure was not strong enough to support the many patients suffering and dying from the infection. The economic impact was mostly felt among the most vulnerable women and children.
ABWU quickly jumped into action and reached out to all member countries to give humanitarian relief and support. 20 Organisation from 12 countries benifitted from this programme. In addition to that, many countries in Asia were going through civil wars, racial conflicts and natural disasters (like typhoons and flooding) due to global warming. Again, they sought help to ABWU; through the Women Helping Women programme, humanitarian aides were given to all those affected.
Asia and the rest of the world saw what we were doing, and many member countries including the Global Baptist Family started sending donation to support this programme. After all, ABWU was feeding those who were hungry, giving water to those who were thirsty and healing those who were sick as mentioned in Mathew 25: 35.
From the post-COVID, ABWU soared to greater heights through the successful general assembly with more than 900 ladies from 20 countries in attendance. Women Helping Women added a new dimension to its activities through church planting in Cambodia, Bhutan and Laos and supported the formation of new women fellowships and training of new women leaders. Currently, there is history in the making as ABWU has launched a Global Uptick- ABWU Young Women Leadership one year on line course from Sept 2024 - July 2025. 60 women from 12 countries have joined the course and we look forward to welcome the many new leaders that will serve alongside ABWU in women’s ministry.
In conclusion, ABWU’s Women Helping women will always be an ongoing project, helping all the women across Asia in need at the lowest point of their lives.
